Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest lay Catholic family service organization. As their forebears did more than a century ago, today's Knights and their families stand shoulder to shoulder in support of one another. Through their charity and the examples of their lives, they stand in service to all as witnesses to the Good News of the Gospel. Founded by Father Michael J. McGivney, curate at St. Mary's Parish in New Haven, Connecticut, the Knights of Columbus was chartered on March 29, 1882, in the State of Connecticut. As Father McGivney explained to a small group of men at a meeting in the basement of St. Mary's Church in October 1881, his purpose in calling them together was manifold: to help Catholic men remain steadfast in their faith through mutual encouragement, to promote closer ties of fraternity among them; and to set up an elementary system of insurance so that the widows and children of members in the group who might die would not find themselves in dire financial straits. From such promising beginnings Father McGivney's original group has blossomed into an international society of over 1.7 million Catholic men in nearly 14,000 councils who have dedicated themselves to the ideals of Columbianism: Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism. Today members of the Order are found in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Panama, Poland, Cuba, Guam, the Virgin Islands, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. They belong to many races and speak many different languages. They are diverse, yet they are one. Their diversity spells creativity; their unity spells strength. Catholic men, 18 years or older are encouraged to join our Council, if interested in joining please contact Grand Knight Garry Lacey at gllacey@ptd.net or Father Kris. The Knights of Columbus Council #7581 meet on the 4th Monday of the month at 7:00 PM. Our council is made up of men from two different churches, St Edward The Confessor Parish and Our Lady of Victories Parish. The meetings are held at St. Edward The Confessor Parish in Milford, NJ on the even numbered months and Our Lady of Victories Parish in Baptistown, NJ on odd numbered months. Do to the Christmas Holiday, the Knights of Columbus Council #7581 next meeting will be the 3rd Monday on December 15, 2014 at 7:00pm at St. Edwards Parish Center.
