Holy Name Society

|
From a historical perspective, devotion to the Holy Name goes back to the Old Testament where we find reverence for the Name of God enjoined by the Second Commandment. The beginning of the Holy Name Society, as an organized effort to promote the fulfillment of this Divine Commandment, can be traced back to the Thirteenth Century when the heretics of that day made violent attacks upon the divinity of Christ and His Holy Name. In our modern day world the mission of the Holy Name Society is to offer men of the Roman Catholic Faith a program through a Lay Apostolate to promote the love and respect for the Name of Jesus. Here at St. Edwards we have an organization of men who have chosen to join this worldwide Confraternity to outwardly demonstrate their devotion to the name of God and Christ through actively practicing their faith in their daily life and by being involved in the life of our parish. Many of today`s members of St. Edward`s Holy Name Society serve as Ushers, Eucharistic Ministers and Choir Members. These men also decorate the Parish Center and Church at Easter and when other occasions require it. The Holy Name Society also sponsors each year at Easter Time the flower sale which benefits the Choir, The Holy Name Society, the Rosary Altar Society and the Youth Group.
