| The Ascension of the Lord - Holy Day of Obligation Wednesday, May 16, Vigil Mass at 7:00 PM Thursday, May 17, Masses at 8:30 AM & 7:00 PM
The Ascension of Our Lord, which occurred 40 days after Resurrection is the final act of our redemption that Christ began on Good Friday. On this day, the risen Christ, in the sight of His apostles, ascended bodily into Heaven (Luke 24:51; Mark 16:19; Acts 1:9-11). The reality of the Ascension is so important that the creeds (the basic statements of belief) of Christianity all affirm, in the words of the Apostles` Creed, that "He ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead." Christ`s bodily Ascension foreshadows our own entrance into Heaven not simply as souls, after our death, but as glorified bodies, after the resurrection of the dead at the Final Judgment. In redeeming mankind, Christ not only offered salvation to our souls but began the restoration of the material world itself to the glory that God intended before Adam`s fall.

Catholics settled in Milford area in the late 1800s and early 1900s attended Mass at either St. John the Evangelist Church in Lambertville or St. Philip and St. James Church in Phillipsburg. From 1915 Sunday Mass was celebrated in the private homes in Milford by priests from Philipsburg. In 1922 with the larger congregation Mass was celebrated in a Silk Mill, and on July 14, Church of St. Edward the Confessor became an official Mission St. Philip and St. James Parish in Phillipsburg. Construction on the Spanish mission-style Church began in the spring of 1925 and the first Mass was celebrated on Christmas morning. A large wing was added to the Church in 1937. On June 14, 1944 St. Edward the Confessor became independent Parish.
We, the parish community of St. Edward the Confessor Church, have as our mission to unite all of our families in God’s Name to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We share our gifts through worship, education, fellowship, and community outreach, by joyfully facing the challenges of our neighborhood. Through the intercession of St. Edward the Confessor, our patron, may we grow in faith, hope and love.

O God, who called your servant Edward to an earthly throne that he might advance your heavenly kingdom, and gave him zeal for your Church and love for your people: Mercifully grant that we who commemorate him may be fruitful in good works, and attain to the glorious crown of your saints; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen
